Why need English test?
-Most universities in English speaking country requires this, and different countries have different requirement, make sure you take the correct test, else you will waste around USD 150 per test.
There are 2 english test around
1. TOEFL -Test of English as a Foreign Language
There is iBT (Internet Based Test) and PBT ( Paper based test), i suggest to register online
TOEFL online registration
The test last around 3-4 hours and consist of the following elements
- Reading – Reading 2 articles and answer questions
- Listening – listen and answer
- Speaking – speak about a topic given to you
- Writing – need to write 2 short essays
Remember to register about one month before the test, this gets you ready and also securing a place, most of the time is full booked, so booked early.
Where to take test depending where you stay, list for Malaysians are as below
2. IELTS – International English Language Testing System
This test are needed to study in UK, Canada and Australia. It is rather more complicated than TOEFL but it definitely get recognised in more universities.
To register, you have to submit a form from the nearest IELTS center ( British council usually)
The format is about same as TOEFL however I heard is a little bit tougher.
You need to get at least Band 4 to pass but general requirement is band 6 and above if i am not mistaken.
Remember to choose the correct English test to avoid sitting for another one, also remember to be well prepared for test.
